The remaster also failed to break into the top 40 most popular PS5 and PS4 games during its debut week. Comparisons to other titles like Black Myth: Wukong and Helldivers 2 highlight its lackluster performance. Sony has not commented on its commercial success, but these metrics suggest the remaster hasn't met expectations.
It’s worth noting that TrueTrophies’ data represents only a fraction of PlayStation’s 116 million monthly active users, meaning the results might not paint the full picture. However, with the original game outperforming the remaster on PC and little evidence of widespread enthusiasm, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered seems to be struggling to justify its existence for many players.
The original Horizon Zero Dawn launched for PS4 in 2017, later arriving on PC in 2020. Following the PS5’s release, Guerrilla Games updated the game to run at 60fps on the new console through backward compatibility, satisfying most players who sought improved performance. However, Sony decided to go further, releasing Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for PS5 and PC in October 2024.
